Newtons empty grave

Newton-kenotafium 1784

Newtons kenotafium is an unrealized project
suggested by the french neoclassicistic architect
Etienne-Louis Boullé (1728-1799).

Many such projects was built in the course of the french revolution.
They express their ages hope, a dream of a heroic new world
as well as the architects love of bold gestures in dramatic shapes.
Such half visionary projects also emerged during the russian revolution.

according to Norbert Lynton.

Kenotafium / Kenotaph means "The empty grave".
Originally greek: Kenos = empty. Tafos = grave.

The scope of this monument would be sizable even today:
A building almost 1/4 km high and 1/3 km wide...
